Message from Executive Director
As I step down as executive director of MTEC, I am particularly proud of the leadership team and employees for our commitment and significant contributions to materials science, manufacturing, and design, as mandated by the Science and Technology Development Act of B.E. 2534. Our beneficial deliverables provide a significant advantage to all parts of the nation, both in commercial value and public benefit. They enhance industrial and service competitiveness, enrich lives and communities, and contribute significantly to economic and social value of our country. Undoubtedly, our remarkable achievements are due to not only our unity in fulfilling our professional obligations, but also our increased cooperation with countless relevant partners around the world, from public to private to academic.
Never before has MTEC, or any other relevant R&D entity, encountered such a monumental shift in the restructuring of Fundamental Fund allocation since the establishment of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. A key challenge for us is adapting to the new funding landscape, which requires us to not only build and harness our technological competencies, but also to ensure sufficient research funding to support our sustainable growth. Formerly subsidized by annual government budget allocations, MTEC now actively seeks other R&D funding sources, such as the the Program Management Unit (PMU), other public sector and private sector entities and even international organizations. Recognizing the changing context, we are increasing agility to respond future challenges and managing our task-budget-manpower efficiently. Thanks to the dedication of MTEC and its autonomous agency staff, we are particularly proud to have secured a substantial 200 million baht research funds. We achieved a record despite country’s restricted budget, economic recession and hiring freezes.
On behalf of the leadership team, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have worked with all of my colleagues at MTEC and NSTDA, including those who have retired and those who have embarked on new careers.
Finally, I would like to express my deepest appreciation and gratitude to my respected predecessors who played a pivotal role in establishing MTEC and building a solid foundation for a bright future. Thank you for trusting me with the incredible opportunity to lead MTEC, a dominant driving force in materials science, manufacturing, and design that drives prosperity throughout Thailand.
Dr. Julathep Kajornchaiyakul
