On February 21, 2022 at the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), Dr. Kritsada Prapakorn, Deputy Executive Director of MTEC, together with Dr. Sarawut Lerspalungsanti, Research Team Leader of Design and Industry Solutions Research Team, Engineering Design and Computation Research Group of MTEC, had delivered the ‘PETE’ Patient Isolation and Transportation Chamber to Thung Yang Daeng Hospital, Pattani Province, to support the medical personnel against COVID-19.
Dr. Kritsada Prapakorn, Deputy Executive Director of MTEC, said that MTEC aims to use science and technology to foster innovation that benefits both the economy and society of the country. During the COVID-19 outbreak, MTEC research team had developed Patient Isolation and Transportation Chamber or ‘PETE’ as a device to relocate COVID-19 patients from place to place. The PETE consists of a clear plastic capsule (called chamber) that fits the patients’ body and can be put into the X-ray machine and CT scan since it does not contain any metal part. Furthermore, the chamber is lightweight and can be folded into a bag, which can be easily handled and reinstalled, especially in the ambulance. The PETE helps reduce the chance of the spread of infection to various medical equipment and air conditioning systems within the hospitals, as well as the risk towards the medical personnel and other people in the hospital. As of 2022, Suprera Innovation Co., Ltd. is the only licensee for the technology transfer of the PETE’s production and distribution and MTEC had delivered the PETE to support the work of the medical personnel in more than 100 hospitals all over the country.
