Introduction:
The Thailand Materials Science and Technology Conference (abbreviated as MS@T or MSAT) is one of the major series of conferences in materials science, technology, and engineering which has been initiated and organized by the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC). The MSAT conference has been held bi-annually since 2000 and it strives to be an international multidisciplinary conference which aims to provide space for discussion among stakeholders, i.e. academia, research institutes, and industries on their latest findings, novel applications, and technical/marketing challenges.
The first Thailand Materials Science and Technology Conference, MS@T, was held during July 19-20, 2000 at Amari Watergate Bangkok. There were 168 presentations, consisting of 46 oral presentations and 122 poster presentations.
The following table summarizes key information for the first 10 MSAT Conferences.

Some MSAT Conferences had been co-organized with other major events, for example, MS@T III had been organized concurrently with the Thainox Metallurgy Award 2004, the 5th International Symposium on the 21st Century COE Program of Nagaoka University of Technology: The 2nd Workshop on Regional Network Formation for Enhancing Research and Education on Materials Engineering and the 2nd 21st Century COE International Symposium on Green Energy Revolution.
Certain critical issue had also been given high priority as the theme of MS@T-5 was Materials Technology for Climate Change.
It should be noted that since MSAT-7, the conferences had been repositioned to international conference. Partipants from at least 23 countries, namely, Arab Emirates, Canada, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Libya, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Portugal, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United State of America, had joined MSAT-7 to MSAT-10.
This year, 2022, MSAT-11 will be held during August 29-31, 2022 through a virtual conference because of the COVID-19 pandemic is still prevalent. The conference will be co-organized by the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), the Technology and Informatics Institute for Sustainability (TIIS), and the Rail and Modern Transports Research Center (RMT). The scope of this conference is to provide an overview of recent progress and R&D activities ranging from fundamental research to applied research in the fields of materials science, technology, and engineering.
Key topics are as follows:
-
-
- Biomedical Materials and Devices
- Ceramics
- Computational Science & Engineering
- Design & Manufacturing
- Functional Polymeric Materials
- Materials for Energy
- Materials Technology for Environment
- Metal, Alloys and Intermetallic Compounds
-
MSAT-11 will also hold 3 special symposia, namely
(1) Technology Frontiers in Well-Living
(2) Mega Trends in Future Mobility and
(3) Materials Informatics: “Accelerating Materials Research using Artificial Intelligence”
Also, there will be exhibitions of cutting-edge materials-related technologies from leading companies and authorized dealers in this coming MSAT-11.
