Background
OTOP fabric and apparel products are manufactured by community enterprises scattering across the country. The manufacturing process Of these products has generated significant amount Of waste such as wastewater from bleaching, dying and rinsing processes. Unfortunately, the OTOP entrepreneurs do not have sound knowledge on waste management. Also, the support system on improvement of process and tool for managing waste generated by manufacturing process is not in place. To sustainably solve the issue and to mahe products “greener” to meet expansion of market demand for environmentally-friendly products, root causes have to be examined. The manufacturing process must be improved to be more environmentally friendly. Waste water treatment system must be in place and must be suitable for treatment of waste water from washing and dyeing processes. Also, the system must be suitable for the application Of the nature Of business.
Project Details
The project focuses on correcting root cause Of the issues by improving manufacturing process to be more environmental friendly. The project also aims to promote efficient use Of resources to minimize waste and turning waste into something Of value. Science and technology techniques are applied in the evaluation of manufacturing process. Consultancy is provided in order to identify deviations and recurring issues found in manufacturing process. Competitive edge is added to the products by having them featured in environmental product self-declaration registry on www.thaiecoproduct.com. The project also looked into design and development of waste water treatment suitable for each type of waste water generated from washing and dyeing processes. The system is easy to install and disassembly. Filter and adsorbent can be replaced after expiring or damages. The project also develops a waste water testing kit which helps OTOP entrepreneurs to gain information for waste water treatment. îuthurmore, the waste water treatment systems have been distributedly installed more than 100 locations around the country.
Output
1. The entrepreneurs are able to improve their manufacturing process to efficient the use of resources and energy, minimize waste and to turn waste into something of value to create wealth to the community. The entrepreneurs are able to have their products listed in environmental product self-declaration registry on www.thaiecoproduct.com.
2. Household waste water treatment system from system and cotton washing and dyeing processes which uses chemical precipitation system, filtration and adsorption was designed to be located on the ground which makes it easy to install. The filter and adsorbent can be easily replaced after expiring. The quality of treated water can be easily tested. The treatment system can be adjusted according to the volume of waste water to be treated, is light and portable. Spare parts can be purchased locally. Treated water which meet acceptable criteria can be safely discharged to surface water.
3. Waste water testing kit for measuring the properties of treated water before being discharge to surface water. The testing kit displays instant and easy-to-understand results which do not require interpretation from experts.
