Atmospheric corrosion of structural steels depends significantly on climate and environment. Different alloys may have different corrosion rates under the same environment. Material degradation by corrosion causes strength reduction. It is important to monitor and collect climate and environmental data to understand their effects on corrosion rates. A correlation function can be derived to achieve a predictive equation based on statistical analysis.

This prototype (URL: https://thaicorrosionmap.mtec.or.th) presents corrosion rate of carbon steel and weathering steel in form of web-based geographic information system (GIS). Technical staff, specialists, and management personnel in both governmental and private sectors, and also interested people will be informed of the corrosivity at any location in Thailand. This corrosion map can provide supporting information for suitable material selection and preventive-predictive maintenance plan.
