IRPC Public Company Limited is the first enterprise in the petrochemical industry in Southeast Asia. The company has started its business producing plastic pellets in 1982 and expanded its production line for various types of plastic pellets, as well as expanded its factories and created an infrastructure for other petrochemical industries.

The company cooperated and performed research with MTEC to solve problems in the production process problems, such as the silver streaks in the polymer injection molded parts, the analysis and tracking of spray problems in polymer injection with thermal techniques, and the processing of FPA300 fibril (anti-dripping agent), to obtain value-added technical information which will be increase its business opportunity.

Mr. Phadet Prarom, Polyolefin Manager, said that IRPC had received technology transfer from foreign countries. The company acquired the production procedures but lacked in-depth knowledge as well as experience and appropriate equipment, so when there were tough problems, the company’s research and development team could not solve it. Thus, the company started cooperating with MTEC to solve the problems.

Mr. Phadet Prarom said that, at present, the company is able to run its production process with the academic knowledge from MTEC research team1 and develop innovative products to meet the customers’ needs. This cooperation also helps increase employees’ skill. In the future, cooperation will be even more critical, therefore, the company plans to further cooperate with MTEC.

Mr. Thanit Clearpoungpit, Senior Engineer of Styrenics products Business Administration, said that Dr. Patcharee preferred to work at the plant to understand the real situation, which could help solve the problems effectively. Dr. Patcharee also gave us some additional knowledge that is useful for our production process. Working with MTEC enables the company to learn what we can be improved. The QC and R&D team greatly appreciated all the help that MTEC had done.

Moreover, the company also assigned its employees to attend the plastic injection training at MTEC to learn the fundamental knowledge and applications. The training had received a very good feedback from the employee and further courses will be arranged in the future.

Mr. Ekawat Chengsudtha, Senior Engineer, added more comment that Dr. Patcharee not only solved the company’s problems but also suggested a systematic study for employees to help determine the exact cause of the problems. This study has shown the differences between standard products and nonstandard products, which helps us control the quality of the products before delivering them to the customers.
